For as long as I can remember, it has seemed magical to me that beautiful music can be made by touching the keys of my favourite instrument, the piano.
In my experience, for every student who feels there is nothing particularly magical about using a keyboard instrument to make music, there are many more that have already discovered this magic for themselves or who find the magic with some instruction. As a young child I first became aware of it on my own, using a small red wooden toy piano – and soon after this I began my piano lesson journey, guided and encouraged by supportive parents and a neighbourhood teacher through to my late teens. Although I continued to play during adulthood, it wasn’t until middle age that I re-visited formal tuition and began studying and practising regularly again.
I now enjoy helping others create and share their own ‘keyboard magic’ and thankfully still find the time to conjure up a little of my own.
